Assassin’s Creed is a game of quick and smart decisions, and some pretty cool moves.  In Assassin’s Creed you are a bartender who is unwillingly a part of an experiment ran by a scientist.  In the experiment you are put into a machine and you have to relive memories of your distant relative who was an assassin.  His name is Altair and he is one of the most feared assassins of his time.

In the game you have a huge area of land to embark on your journey, allowing you to travel by foot or horse.  Horse if you are looking to travel a long distance or by foot if you think you will be fighting some people on the way to your destination.  In Assassin’s Creed, Altair has amazing moves that use strength and agility.  Altair’s so agile that it means it is very easy to climb buildings and run across rooftops to make your journey quicker.

The main objective of this game is to redeem yourself by assassinating 9 important people that are making other people’s lives miserable.  You do this by first completing missions such as pick pocketing information or eavesdropping on someone with information about the person you are to assassinate.  Once you get your information you take it to the assassin’s bureau so you can get a strip of paper to put your victim’s blood on.  You do this to prove that you killed the person.  After that you have to find where your target is and go to him.  After you find him you will enter a cut scene and then you will get a chance to assassinate your victim.

The bosses within Assassin’s Creed are well-crafted, and I believe it’s one of the stronger points of the game.  You’ll find yourself so anxious to kill the bosses due to the way they’re depicted to you and upon your final assassination of them, you’re given this "final words" type deal as they lay dying in your arms, and you almost second guess yourself for assassinating them.

Sometimes you can just walk up and assassinate your target, but other times you will have to fight off guards or chase down your victim, and sometimes you have to do both.  It takes strategy to assassinate your target because sometimes your target fights back if you don’t sneak up behind him or he will have guards protecting him if you don’t move fast enough.  Even if you sneak attack your target you will still be chased by guards after the assassination until you find somewhere to hide.

If you’re spotted by guards or your warning level becomes increasingly high, guards will chase you for just looking at them.  You can find yourself overwhelmed at times, and it’s quite the chore having to run through different sectors downtown and fighting your way through the abundance of people.  Altair can be kind and gentle as he moves through the crowds, or he could just go the complete badass route and shank a few people and then scale a building quickly to hide from the guards.

If you can quickly get around a corner, you can use the "blend" technique to disguise yourself within certain religious groups so that the guards will be oblivious to where you are.  The more skilled Altair becomes in the game, the more weapons he has at his disposal.  From a large sword, throwing knives, to his trademark hidden dagger, Altair is a deadly assassin. When your weapons won’t do you any good, or you find yourself at a tall peak in the city and you need to get down, just find a haystack and jump straight down into it with your signature dive.

For gamers who are strictly multiplayer game players, you probably shouldn’t buy this game.  There is no multiplayer and the game is like Déjà vu because you are doing the same thing over and over again.  All you do is fight, find information, travel, and assassinate repeatedly.  Although there should be more decisions to make and possibly a longer story because of the game not consisting of a multiplayer game mode, it is still pretty cool to run around showing off your cool moves and follow the cut scenes that the game has.  Also every once in a while you’ll feel the urge to assassinate a random person, don’t be afraid to do it.  No one is watching except for the hundreds of people that are around you and getting ready to give you a whooping.

In my opinion, the story mode is way too short.  If you are not going to have any multiplayer in the game you should have an at least time consuming, and enjoyable single-player.  This game has its moments, but most people get bored because of the repetitive cycle you go through.  If you are looking for a few easy achievements then I would consider renting this game.  Assassin’s Creed can be an incredibly enjoyable game, but it needs to be played in moderation so you don’t get frustrated with the repetitive cycle it seems to dawn.

Our Rating for Assassin’s Creed Review
5.5
Replay Value
You might pop this game back in to get a few achievements, but it is definitely not a game you will play over and over again.
9.0
Graphics
One thing that is not noticed that much about this game is that it has very good graphics. Each building, person, etc is captured very well in this game.
7.0
Sound
Decent sound but nothing too amazing.
0.1
Multiplayer
There is no multiplayer.
7.5
Single Player
Fun for a little while, but it will get boring after a few hours of play.
9.0
Controls
The scaling controls flow well, and the combat while rather simplistic, works well with the gameplay.
7.5
Overall
Innovative and fun, but it can become increasingly repetitive and needs to be played in moderation.
