The big news coming out of Paramount Pictures is that like Warner Brothers has done, will be testing out the video game industry and see if the consumers will bite. The main obstacle presented for Paramount is despite the fact it’s backed by Viacom is will the consumers wane from the big boys like EA or Activision and notice the new kids on the block?
Gamasutra.com reports that the new Paramount gaming division while interested in gaining its own brand of fanboys does want to bring in experienced and well-known publishers to present and compete in the gaming community. The question lies in which will come as top priority for Paramount?
Odds are once Paramount starts releasing its own games expect many more movie-based games out on the market as Paramount will be backing its own work and intends on "playing it safe" before expanding its boundaries. Also expect those games to be released onto handheld devices as Paramount believes that they will not succeed in the console battle early on.
But there is hope yet as former executivies from Sega and Activision are apart of Paramount’s new gaming division so in the future if Paramount is successful we may be seeing more than the next Iron Man, Indiana Jones or Kung Fu Panda games being released. Which brings up yet another question as to will Paramount flood the market with unnecessary games or will they release the next Mario of our time?
